Dr Brown and his team are back!
For the 5th time, this wonderful team of doctors and nurses come from California to do surgery on a voluntary basis. This time, they brought with them surgery equipment which allowed them to not only perform specific surgery procedures, but to also teach proper techniques and provide a new way to treat patients.
The team arrived at the time of a strike at the county hospital, so the demand for surgery was extra high. Emily Brown reported: Your team was amazingly creative and accommodating for the extra patients from the strike at the county hospital and our surgery camp. It was incredible to see the conference room and the local community hall transformed into functioning patient wards.
During this two-week trip, we performed 126 cases including 56 hernias and 29 hydroceles. If we include the most recent trip, our team and the Kinondo Kwetu staff have performed an astonishing 563 procedures in five surgical camps.
Dr Brown and his team has now been officially approved by the U.S. government as a non-profit which allows them to collect donations and provide a tax refund to their supporters.
We wish the team back next time in July!
