Visit at Kinondo Kwetu Hospital by two Swedish nurses

In February, Sofia Lange, a pediatric nurse, and Lovisa Stenbeck, a general nurse, from Stockholm, Sweden, came to Kinondo Kwetu Hospital with the purpose to share their knowledge and experiences in pediatric nursing. They gave us this brief report:

Our project was about implementing distraction methods and ways to make hospital situations less uncomfortable for children. We supported the staff during medical interventions with children and held a presentation on the topic, based on latest research and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. We presented different age-appropriate distraction methods and left two bags of material and toys for the hospital to use. We also held a Children CPR and First aid workshop and donated three CPR training manikins to the staff to continue their training.  The last day we decorated the Pediatric Ward with help of both staff and child inpatients.

We were sponsored by the Swedish company “HLR-teamet” and donations from friends and family.
Our experience was immensely gratifying and educational. We exchanged experiences with the staff, and we learned a lot from each other.

Thank you, Kinondo Kwetu Hospital, for your very warm welcome and kind treatment during our stay.

We hope to come back soon!
